Stalker 2 is the long-awaited mainline sequel to the cult classic original Stalker: Shadow of Chornobyl from 2007. While we wait for the game's launch, here's everything we know so far about the once troubled, now promising genre-bender. Fans of the original post-nuclear fallout survival-horror/shooter hybrid may be eagerly awaiting this gorgeous-looking sequel from GSC Game World, especially given that it was first announced (and even canceled) a decade ago. Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl has been in development for a long time, and that process continues into 2023. After that, we may see the game head to other console platforms, though a Switch version seems unlikely (unless by way of a cloud edition) due to the game's demanding specs and it being a current-gen exclusive. Currently, a PlayStation launch has not yet been announced, but a leak seems to suggest the game will be a timed-exclusive on Xbox consoles for three months. It will also launch on Xbox Game Pass on day one for both console and PC subscribers. Stalker 2 will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S. As you might've noticed, the game's title was also slightly changed to reflect the Ukrainian spelling of "Chornobyl." Given it once was scheduled for 2021, it's possible that the team is not far off from completion, even amid a turbulent situation such as real-life war.įollowing the breakout of the war, Xbox put out a trailer in support of development teams working in Ukraine and sometimes quite literally the line of fire. As a result, the game is currently without a release date. Since then, the development team has been directly affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and development persists, but understandably at a hampered pace. "We have made a decision to postpone the release of Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl to December 8th, 2022," reads a statement posted on the game's official Twitter account. That, however, changed in January 2022, when the developer announced a delay that pushes the title's launch to early December. It was only in 2021, when we actually saw it in action, that we found out it was planned to come out on April 28, 2022.
